SQLite Diff: A Software Product Marketing Case Study

David Simpson of .com Solutions Inc. is one of the most effective marketers in the Rev community. His database conversion products built with Rev have met with strong reviews and glowing comments from cutomers who appreciate the ease with which his tools help them convert their databases from one format to another.

But making a great product is only part of the battle. The rest is getting the word out.

In this article David shares his insights into product marketing with specific tips any Rev developer can take advantage of, using his SQLite Diff product as a case study.

The Revolution Will Be Televised

The RunRev Developer Conference held in Las Vegas last May was a great success.

For those of you who couldn't attend, or those of you who wish you could enjoy it all over again, RunRev Ltd. is offering a DVD series of the RunRev conference sessions.

Perhaps the most important news at the RevCon was the announcement from RunRev Ltd. about a new web initiative which includes two parts: a browser plugin on the client side and a new enhanced server-side engine that lets you do many of the things you might do in PHP but with the grace and ease of Revolution's scripting language.

These are both still in development, and while it's still too early to give a release date for them we're very much looking forward to putting them to use the day they're available.

In the meantime, Revolution 3.0 has been released with a great many news features, not the least of which are the new gradient properties for graphic objects.

Version 3.5 has begun beta testing, and while we're not at liberty to discuss it publicly I can say it offers some very exciting new goodies. More on that later...

Link of the Week

Jacque Gay of HyperActive Software has released a new tool to help Revolution developers add a registration system to their software quickly, easily, and very affordably - from her site:

Zygodact provides an easy, automated way to add a complete registration serial key system to your Revolution standalone application or stack. With only a single line of code, Zygodact will check to see whether your application has been registered with a valid serial key. If not, it displays a dialog requesting a user ID and registration key. If your user cannot provide a valid registration, Zygodact gracefully shuts down your software, disallowing access.

Zygodact does all the work for you. It generates any number of customer serial keys for your application, and handles every aspect of requesting and tracking a valid software registration on your user’s computer.

The Zygodact registration system can be purchased through RevSelect, and is also available as part of a time-limited Megabundle offered by RunRev at a very compelling price.
